I am listening to a tape that I made my exwife in our courtship phase. In particular a song that is a favorite of mine. Digable Planets, La Femme Fetal is one of the most beat inducing, hip shaken songs that I know. It is also a political masterpeice and a straight on comment for current times. From the unofficial website:
Digable Planets - La Femme Fetal
[Butterfly]
It was 8:49 on a beautiful 9th day of july
There was not a cloud to speak of so the orange sun hung
Lonely in the sky
I was laying prone in my ?catbeat? home
Listening to fine nappy jackie and his jazzcat's horn
Sliding in a tape of bird on verve when suddenly rang my phone
Hello butterfly , a voice said
Slip on some duds comb out your fro and slide on down to my pad
The vibe here is very pleasant and i truly request your presence
A problem of great magnitude has arose
And as we speak it grows
Damn, what could it be i thought
A juice i bought and rolled on down to her pad
Seeing bros i know slapping fives i arrived and pressed G-5
And there was nikki
Lookin some kind of sad with tears fallin from her eyes
She sat me down
And dug my frown and began to run it down
"You remember my boyfriend sid that fly kid who i love
Well our love was often a verb and spontaneity has brought a third
But do to our youth an economic state we wish to terminate
About this we don't feel great , but baby that's how it is
But the feds have dissed me
They ignore and dismiss
And the pro-lifers harrass me outside the clinic
And call me a murderer, now that's hate
So needless to say we're in a mental state of debate"
Hey beautiful bird i said digging her somber mood
The fascists are some heavy dudes
They don't really give a damn about life
They just don't want a woman to
Control her body or have the right to choose
But baby that ain't nothin
They just want a male finger on the button
Because if you say war they will send them to die by the score
Aborting mission should be your volition
But if souter and thomas have their way
You'll be standing in line unable to get welfare while they're out
Hunting and fishing
It has always been around it will always have a niche
But they'll make it a privelege not a right
Accessible only to the rich
Pro-lifers should dig themselves
Cause life doesn't stop after birth
And to a child borne to the unprepared
It might even just get worse
Supporters of the h-bomb and fire bombing clinic
What type of shit is that? orwellian in fact
If roe v wade was overturned would not the desire remain intact
Leaving young girls to risk their healths
And doctors to botch and watch as they kill themselves
I don't want to sound macabre
But hey, isn't it my job
To lay it on the masses and get them off their asses
To fight against these fascists
So whatever you decide make that move with pride
Sid will be there (ladybug will be there, doodlebug will be there)
And so will i
An insect til i die
Rhythms and sounds
Spinning around
Confrontations
Across the nation
Your block
My block
Dreadlocks
What a shock
Land of the free - but not me

What You Need to Know About Absentee Voting
What they don't tell you is that it is not a secret ballot. Basically, I stuff my ballot into a non-sealed "secrecy envelope". Then place it into a sealed mailing envelope.
I am assuming that the ballot gets received and the number off my ballot removed and then the unsealed "secrecy envelope" gets dropped into some mass box. Counted later. But this system is not secret!
Standard disclaimer: If voting could change anything, it would be illegal. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

"I want to start this Action Alert with a prayer of support for our friend Margaret Guttshall, who was in a terrible car accident two weeks ago and is hospitalized in Ann Arbor at U of M hospital/trauma unit. Margaret sustained very very serious injuries so she will need our love and good thoughts. Also in need of support is Fred and daughter Anna - it's easy to forget the family at times like this but it is such a terrible ordeal for them. One way to support Margaret would be to cast your vote for her as a Wayne State Regent - she's running as a Green and will be an excellent regent when her convalescence is through. A lovely act of solidarity. Because she is in the trauma unit, she cannot have flowers. What would probably please Margaret the most is if you performed a radical act in her name. Margaret Guttshall, a long-time Detroit activist and Green candidate for the Wayne State Board of Governors, was critically injured in an auto accident on Sunday. She is currently in a medically induced coma as doctors perform surgery on her. The account from a Kalamazoo paper is reprinted below.
For those of you voting, I strongly urge casting a ballot for her as a sign of solidarity and honoring her long years of social activism.

"CAR/TRUCK CRASH ON I-94 LEAVE WOMAN CRITICALLY INJURED
A 54-year-old Detroit woman was very critically injured when her car collided with a semitrailer on Interstate 94 Friday as she returned from an appearance by Vice President Dick Cheney, police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital. She had been following a van of acquaintances when the truck changed lanes and struck her Ford Focus around 12:30 p.m.
"She spun off the right side of the road and struck a tree broadside," said Lt. Paul Matyas of the Portage Police Department.
Police said the woman was critically injured when the driver's side of her car crashed into the tree. The truck driver, an Indiana man, drove off into the median. He was not injured.
No other vehicles were involved. Matyas said the woman was alone in the car but following a van with several people in it.
"There was at least two vehicles, one following the other. They were Ralph Nader supporters and they had gone to the (Town Hall event in Kalamazoo put on by the Bush-Cheney campaign). ... They had left there and were on the highway," he said.
It's believed they were headed to a Nader rally.
The vehicles were going west on the interstate when the collision happened just east of the Oakland Drive overpass. Canadian paramedics who happened to be in the area stopped to help the woman before local medics arrived.
Traffic was shut down to one lane for three hours.
Matyas said neither alcohol nor speed were factors and both drivers wore seat belts. The investigation is ongoing, Matyas said."
I know her daughter is here in Ann Arbor. My best wishes to Margaret and her family. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The Adventures of Johnny Buck: E-mail the Forest Service, have them stop illegal logging
"Silver Creek Lumber is currently logging in violation of their contract. They were supposed to stop logging in the Horse timber sale on October 1st, it's now the 18th, and they are still logging. The halt of logging was to happen to help protect the few remaining wild Port Orford Cedar, which suffer from a root rotting fungus, which is spread easily spread by muddy boots, tires, equipment, and dragging logs around on the ground. Things that happen a lot when logging in the rainy season.
Please e-mail Chuck Anderson canderson02@fs.fed.us at the Forest Service, and demand that he take action to stop this breach of contract which is pushing an already threatened species further towards extinction." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The Adventures of Johnny Buck: Folks from my small town IMC shot at during Bush visit
"Once upon a time, in the sleepy little Rogue Valley, George W Bush came to visit! Everyone came out to tell him how they felt about him! The police used pepper ball less than lethal projectile weapons on them! We're talking an area with 130,000 people living in the valley, and 190,000 people in the whole county. "i think my life is back to some semblance of normal after the uproar of the past weeks. on friday, treasury board made a final offer to tables 1 and 3 of the union which our bargaining teams rejected, but there has been a decision made by the national council to take it back to our members for a vote regardless. in about a month, we will be conducting a national vote on the offer and until that time no strike activity will take place, which means i get my life back until that time." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

"The New York Times endorses John Kerry for President. This is no tepid endorsement. It praises Kerry and exhaustively lists the reasons Bush has been an utter failure as our President. In fact, it's brutal. Let's just hope it proves lethal to his candidacy:"

"He threw the government's weight against efforts by the University of Michigan to give minority students an edge in admission, as it did for students from rural areas or the offspring of alumni."
This is fairly big, the NYT feels that a Kerry victory will help keep the whole system from crumbling. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Robert Corr - Kick & Scream
"Let’s get this straight.
The Republican Party hires an organisation, Voters Outreach of America, to register voters for the upcoming presidential election. That organisation trades as America Votes, a name associated with the Democratic Party, in order to attract potential Democrat voters.
Those prospective Democrat voters fill out their registration cards, which are then ripped up and put in the bin.
But those extenuating circumstances apparently don’t justify extending registration so that affected voters aren’t disenfranchised. The judge who made the decision is a Republican.
The company is suing the employee who raised the allegations, but as George Knapp points out, “discrediting him doesn’t explain the existence of the trashed registration forms.”
What’s more, other employees have come forward with stories of illegal pro-Republican policies at the company:" ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

You wanna know what's going on here? You have snorted from the Bush stash. That little bitch hunched on his stool over there has taken two words of mine and thinks he can disembowel me with them. Hey, you stuttering prick, considering your glowing academic career, no fuckin' wonder you're scared shitless of anything that has the word 'test' in it. 'Global motherfucking test' means that you can go anywhere in the goddamn world and talk to any fuckin' person, and you can back your actions up. You can say, 'Hey, look, we were right - motherfucker was gonna bomb the shit out of us.' That means you could walk up to a screaming, bleeding soldier, whose dick was ripped off by a rocket-propelled grenade, and say, 'You know what, man? Sorry about your cock, but you just helped stop the U.S.A. from bein' nuked.' That way, when that soldier is back home, lookin' at the empty space where his dick used to be, he can be proud that he lost his prick savin' the U.S. So that that soldier never has to think, 'Why the fuck was I sent to that motherfuckin' hellhole to lose my cock?' And don't you smirk at me, Bush bitch, or I'll drag you by your balls to the houses of every widow and every mom that's lost a kid and I'll yank down your panties and shove a cattle prod into your sack until you confess, motherfucker, you confess that you knew there were no weapons, that you knew al-Qaeda wasn't there, and that you just rolled the dice and hoped somethin' would turn up, but it's snake eyes, motherfucker, it's snake eyes. And I want you to stand there, pants around your ankles, as the mothers and widows spit on you or punch you or kick your sore nuts. Then I'll drag you around the world so you can grovel on the ground in front of every former ally who said you were wrong and you can bow down, head low, hands outstretched, while they piss and shit on you. And then we'll fly your sore nutted, spat-, pissed-, and shit-upon ass back to the United States and we won't let you clean up, just drag you in front of the television cameras and make you say what every fucking one of us knows: you lied. That, like Jim Jones, you made us believe in shit that was never gonna happen, and we're suckin' on that Kool-Aid, man, we're lappin' it up. Now, tell Karl Rove, who's screaming in your earpiece right now, that I'm gonna fuck his wife in front of him. 'Global test'? Those two words. That's what you're worried about? The world is burning, ma'am, do you fuckin' get that? The goddamned world is burning. And much as the Bush bitch would like you to believe that I'm co-responsible for the world burning, the world is burning on his watch. Your question is born of fear, ma'am. And that lying cockmonger over there has been very, very good at stoking your fears. It's his goal. But the world is burning. The world is burning and that fire's gonna consume us all. It's gonna end up back here in America. And while Bush may be hosing this country, he doesn't have a hydrant big enough to extinguish the flames he's fanned. And besides, why would you trust the arsonist to put out the fires? That's what I meant by 'global test'', then the debate will be worthless." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another View: Why I will vote for John Kerry for President
By JOHN EISENHOWER Guest Commentary
THE Presidential election to be held this coming Nov. 2 will be one of extraordinary importance to the future of our nation. The outcome will determine whether this country will continue on the same path it has followed for the last 3½ years or whether it will return to a set of core domestic and foreign policy values that have been at the heart of what has made this country great.
Now more than ever, we voters will have to make cool judgments, unencumbered by habits of the past. Experts tell us that we tend to vote as our parents did or as we always have. We remained loyal to party labels. We cannot afford that luxury in the election of 2004. There are times when we must break with the past, and I believe this is one of them.
As son of a Republican President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, it is automatically expected by many that I am a Republican. For 50 years, through the election of 2000, I was. With the current administration's decision to invade Iraq unilaterally, however, I changed my voter registration to independent, and barring some utterly unforeseen development, I intend to vote for the Democratic Presidential candidate, Sen. John Kerry.
The fact is that today's Republican Party is one with which I am totally unfamiliar. To me, the word Republican has always been synonymous with the word responsibility, which has meant limiting our governmental obligations to those we can afford in human and financial terms. Today's whopping budget deficit of some $440 billion does not meet that criterion.
Responsibility used to be observed in foreign affairs. That has meant respect for others. America, though recognized as the leader of the community of nations, has always acted as a part of it, not as a maverick separate from that community and at times insulting towards it. Leadership involves setting a direction and building consensus, not viewing other countries as practically devoid of significance. Recent developments indicate that the current Republican Party leadership has confused confident leadership with hubris and arrogance.
In the Middle East crisis of 1991, President George H.W. Bush marshaled world opinion through the United Nations before employing military force to free Kuwait from Saddam Hussein. Through negotiation he arranged for the action to be financed by all the industrialized nations, not just the United States. When Kuwait had been freed, President George H. W. Bush stayed within the United Nations mandate, aware of the dangers of occupying an entire nation.
Today many people are rightly concerned about our precious individual freedoms, our privacy, the basis of our democracy. Of course we must fight terrorism, but have we irresponsibly gone overboard in doing so? I wonder. In 1960, President Eisenhower told the Republican convention, If ever we put any other value above (our) liberty, and above principle, we shall lose both. I would appreciate hearing such warnings from the Republican Party of today.
The Republican Party I used to know placed heavy emphasis on fiscal responsibility, which included balancing the budget whenever the state of the economy allowed it to do so. The Eisenhower administration accomplished that difficult task three times during its eight years in office. It did not attain that remarkable achievement by cutting taxes for the rich. Republicans disliked taxes, of course, but the party accepted them as a necessary means of keep the nation's financial structure sound.
The Republicans used to be deeply concerned for the middle class and small business. Today's Republican leadership, while not solely accountable for the loss of American jobs, encourages it with its tax code and heads us in the direction of a society of very rich and very poor.
Sen. Kerry, in whom I am willing to place my trust, has demonstrated that he is courageous, sober, competent, and concerned with fighting the dangers associated with the widening socio-economic gap in this country. I will vote for him enthusiastically.
I celebrate, along with other Americans, the diversity of opinion in this country. But let it be based on careful thought. I urge everyone, Republicans and Democrats alike, to avoid voting for a ticket merely because it carries the label of the party of one's parents or of our own ingrained habits.
John Eisenhower, son of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, served on the White House staff between October 1958 and the end of the Eisenhower administration. From 1961 to 1964 he assisted his father in writing The White House Years, his Presidential memoirs. He served as American ambassador to Belgium between 1969 and 1971. He is the author of nine books, largely on military subjects.
