Freep.com More Americans pushed into poverty

"The percentage of poor Americans living in severe poverty has reached a 32-year high, millions of working Americans are falling closer to the poverty line and the gulf between the nation's 'haves' and 'have-nots' continues to widen.

An analysis of the 2005 census figures by McClatchy Newspapers found that nearly 16 million people in the United States are living in deep or severe poverty. A family of four with two children and an annual income of less than $9,903 -- half the federal poverty line -- was considered severely poor in 2005. So were people who made less than $5,080 a year. The 2005 figures are the most recent available."

Interesting.. I am curious if this has happened before? Lazy web activated!

=========

I hope this message finds you in the best of health and good spirits. This is Navy Petty Officer Jonathan W. Hutto, Sr, founder of The Appeal for Redress initiative. This is a campaign led by active duty members of the military calling for an end to the occupation in Iraq and for our soldiers to be taken care of when they get here.

If you are receiving this message, you were one of the first to express support for our campaign when we first began. Since our beginning on Oct 23rd of last year, we have grown from 65 active duty members to now 1341 and counting. We've been in major press all over the country, delivered 1031 appeals to Congress on January 16th and participated in the United For Peace and Justice (UFPJ) mobilization in D.C on January 27th calling for an end to the war.

Tonight, our Appeal will be featured on the Emmy award winning "60 Minutes" at 7 p.m est. In order to keep our Appeal going, we need your support. Several small commitments we ask people to do.

1. Tell a friend or co-worker about the appeal especially those who have love ones in the military
2. Tell a friend about the 60 Minutes broadcast tonight
3. Make a donation to the Appeal.

You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Appeal through our website at www.appealforredress.org or you can mail us a donation at:

Gates vs. GM

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on.

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:

If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

1. For no reason whatsoever, yo ur car would crash........ Twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warnin g lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

This has been floating around the internets...

A Suggestion

George Bush has started an ill-timed and disastrous war under false pretenses by lying to the American people and to the Congress; he has run a budget surplus into a severe deficit; he has consistently and unconscionably favored the wealthy and corporations over the rights and needs of the population; he has destroyed trust and confidence in, and good will toward, the United States around the globe; he has ignored global warming, to the world's detriment; he has wantonly broken our treaty obligations; he has condoned torture of prisoners; he has attempted to create a theocracy in the United States; he has appointed incompetent cronies to positions of vital national importance.

Now, would someone please give him a blow job so we can impeach him?

Rape survivor jailed, denied emergency contraception. Act Now. | SaveROE.com
Over the past 72 hours, a 21-year-old woman in Florida was raped, jailed on an outstanding warrant (for a 2003 juvenile arrest), and blocked from taking emergency contraception because a jail worker had 'religious objections' to the medication. This is an absolute outrage."
